Cardiomyopathy Center of Care

Congratulations to the Heart Center for being named a Cardiomyopathy Center of Care by the Children’s Cardiomyopathy Foundation (CCF), a national nonprofit committed to improving the health outcomes and quality of life for children with cardiomyopathy.

Pediatric cardiomyopathy is a chronic and potentially life-threatening heart condition that affects how the heart pumps blood through the body. The Heart Center received this recognition for consistently providing high-quality cardiac care and specialized disease management to children with cardiomyopathy.

"Our team is excited to be designated as a CCF Cardiomyopathy Center of Care," says, Dr. Brian Birnbaum, Director, Pediatric Heart Failure; Director, Pulmonary Hypertension, "This designation represents the great work our entire team does with this group of complex and often very ill patients. It also helps to demonstrate the comprehensive commitment the Ward Family Heart Center and Children's Mercy Kansas City has to cardiomyopathy patients"

Centers are recognized based on CCF’s criteria of managing a high volume of cardiomyopathy patients, offering a variety of pediatric services, specializing in the treatment and management of cardiomyopathy in children, and affiliation with an academic research institution. Information about CCF’s  Cardiomyopathy Center of Care program is available on CCF’s website under “Family Resources.”
