When you’re part of the Children’s Mercy NICU community, know that we’re going to take the very best care of you and your little one.

Your baby may need additional testing and care, and the whole family needs extra support during this time.

Here are some of the services you can expect to see during your stay with us.

Services

Screening can find heart problems in newborns that often have no other symptoms. A blood test or echocardiography can help to diagnose heart disease.

Our team conducts developmental testing at your child’s 2-year appointment. This series of developmental play tasks will check on milestones and asses your child’s developmental progress.

ECMO is a treatment used for children with heart and/or lung problems. It provides long-term heart and/or lung support when other treatments are not working.

The Interdisciplinary Feeding and Swallowing Program is a specialty clinic where you can see several different types of health care providers in one place.

Kangaroo care places a new infant, wearing only a diaper, directly on a parent’s bare chest. This practice has incredible short- and long-term physiological benefits for babies.

The Children’s Mercy lactation team includes nurses who are certified to provide you with personalized education in breast feeding and pumping.
