  If concern for child abuse 

  • Consult Safety Care and Nurturing (SCAN) Clinic and Social Work 

  If concern for aspiration due to feeding problem 

  • Consult Occupational Therapy and/or Speech Therapy
  • Video Fluoroscopic Swallow Study (VFSS) 

  If concern for GERD 

  • Consult Gastroenterology 

  If concern for central apnea or obstructive sleep apnea 

  • Consult Pulmonology or ENT 
  • Comprehensive polysomnography 
  • CT or MRI of head 

  If concern for seizures 

  • Consult Neurology 
  • Prolonged EEG (> 12 hours) 

  If concern for arrhythmia or congenital heart disease 

  • Consult Cardiology 

  If concern for inborn error of metabolism 

  • Consult Genetics 
  • BMP, ammonia

These pathways do not establish a standard of care to be followed in every case. It is recognized that each case is different, and those individuals involved in providing health care are expected to use their judgment in determining what is in the best interests of the patient based on the circumstances existing at the time. It is impossible to anticipate all possible situations that may exist and to prepare a pathway for each. Accordingly, these pathways should guide care with the understanding that departures from them may be required at times.
