Histology

Anatomic Pathology

Histology staff and a Pathologist are on call outside normal hours, call (816) 234-3230
We provide comprehensive pediatric anatomical pathology services including Surgical Pathology, non-GYN Cytopathology and Autopsy services. Subspecialty pediatric pathology services include GI pathology, hematopathology, renal pathology, dermatopathology and neuromuscular pathology.
Support services provided through the Histology Lab include: comprehensive histology, histochemistry, immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescent and electron microscopy.

Non-CMH patient testing is available for STAT acetone, ethylene glycol, volatiles panel, methanol, isopropanol & ethanol. All other testing will be held until normal business hours

Toxicology offers a wide range of testing including drugs of abuse, meconium drug screening, ethanol and volatiles, comprehensive drug screenings by GC/MS and forensic testing. The lab also offers blood lead testing, sweat chloride analysis and several esoteric tests including: HVA/VMA, oxcarbazepine, copper, zinc, zinc protoporphyrin and ethylene glycol.
Biochemical Genetics (Newborn Screening Follow-up) and Special Chemistries Laboratory
8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday - Friday
Weekends: available for Immunosuppressant testing
Services available 24 hours a day and include:

Type and screen of recipients

Cross-matching of red cell products

Direct antiglobulin testing

Selection and preparation of all blood products

Management of blood products to reduce recipient's exposure to the minimum number of donors

Review necessity for transfusion and appropriate volumes

Single donor unit used repeatedly for small volume transfusions to neonates

Packed RBC and FFP from a single donor for a given recipient
-
Review of all transfusion reactions and recommendations for prevention

Coordination of services with the Community Blood Center and American Red Cross
Satellite Laboratories

Satellite laboratory provides basic services on site

Testing collected but not performed at the satellite location is sent to the Adele Hall hospital laboratory

Collections requiring transport to Adele Hall may be held until the following day

Testing instrumentation and methods are complimentary between locations
