School Based Social Work Program
The Children’s Mercy School Based Social Work Program is a partnership between Children’s Mercy and Blue Valley School District that began in 2017 as a front-line intervention program supporting the social and emotional needs of student’s within the school community. The social workers serve as a bridge to support children at school, home, and in the community.
School Social Workers are licensed mental health professionals who promote social, emotional, behavioral, and academic success through collaboration with students, families, staff, and community partners. The social worker uses a trauma informed care lens to recognize student strengths and foster lifelong resilience. Social workers support students in groups and individually and assist teachers with classroom behaviors and strategies for students.
Currently the program has more than 30 social workers placed within the Blue Valley School District serving students in grades K-12 and in alternative educational settings.
