Pediatric Allergy, Asthma and Immunology
Description and Educational Objectives: To expose the student, either through clinical encounters, bedside teaching or didactic lectures/problem-based learning modules to the following diseases and procedures:

Diseases: allergic rhinitis/conjunctivitis, asthma, food allergies, eczema, urticaria-angioedema, immunodeficiency, drug allergy, anaphylaxis (including insect venom and latex allergy); and indications for referral to an allergist/immunologist.

Procedures: skin testing, pulmonary function testing, exhaled nitric oxide, inhalers and devices used in the management of asthma and allergy (including injectable epinephrine).

Elective Duration: 4 weeks duration
Format: Primarily an ambulatory rotation in the Allergy, Asthma and Immunology Clinic with occasional in-patient consults.
Maximum Enrollment: 1 student at a time
Prerequisites: Completion of Core Pediatric Clerkship; must be in 3rd or 4th year of medical school or 5th or 6th year in a 6 year program
Typical Schedule: Clinics are Monday-Thursday. Friday is reserved for didactics and in-patient consults (if any).
Calls: None
Criteria for passing: At least 80% score on post-test and demonstration of competency in formulating and teaching asthma action plans.
Criteria for honors: As assessed by allergy/immunology team members in a 360-degree evaluation survey.
