Pediatric Emergency Medicine

Educational objectives: Develop a logical, efficient approach to the assessment of the urgent and emergent pediatric patient. Become oriented to procedures needed to resuscitate and stabilize pediatric patients. Expand knowledge and technical skills through the management of various pediatric patients. Learn how to interact with families under stress. Develop skills of telephone communication with consultants and primary care providers.

Elective duration: One month

Prerequisites: Completion of the Core Pediatric Clerkship.

Schedule: Average of four, ten-hour shifts per week. Usually 9 a.m. - 7 p.m. or 10 a.m.- 8 p.m. and includes some weekend shifts.

Criteria for passing:  Satisfactory performance on the clinical evaluation.

Criteria for honors:   Outstanding performance on the clinical evaluation.
