Pediatric Infectious Diseases
Educational objectives:

In-patient consultations. Performed by student Monday through Friday mornings.

Goals: To enhance fund of knowledge in pediatric infectious diseases and to develop clinical acumen in assessment of child with serious/recurrent infections.

Anticipate student will perform eight-to-ten inpatient consultations per week and see six-to-eight outpatients.

Didactics will be ongoing and correlate with patient/clinical experience.

Elective duration: One month
Prerequisites: Completion of the Core Pediatric Clerkship with a minimum of four weeks of inpatient pediatrics. Must be in the fourth/sixth year of medical school.
Description: This is a one-month block rotation. It is vacation eligible. The purpose of this rotation is to expose medical students to a variety of infectious disease diagnoses. Basic concepts in infectious disease epidemiology and antimicrobial pharmacology will be covered. The focus will be on inpatient consultation.
Schedule: Weekdays, usually 8-5
Criteria for passing: Satisfactory performance on the clinical evaluation.
Criteria for honors: Outstanding performance on the clinical evaluation.
