Clinical Experience

Child Abuse Pediatrics Fellowship

Clinical responsibilities of the fellow to the CARE Team at Children's Mercy Kansas City are:

  • CARE-Clinic rotations
  • Two clinics per week and two urgent response shifts per week
  • Inpatient call 12 days per month, including one weekend per month


Clinical supervision is provided by CARE Team Faculty to promote gradual acquisition of clinical independence. Timely guidance in clinical assessment, skills decision making, documentation and liaison with community services will be provided to the fellow to assist and guide patient management.


All inpatient consults will be presented to faculty, personally seen by faculty and documented by faculty.


CARE Team Faculty will be continuously available to fellow to guide and supervise patient care throughout fellowship. CARE Team Faculty bear responsibilities to maintain direct involvement with fellow seeing patient throughout fellowship to monitor quality of fellow work, provide clinical teaching for fellow and assure excellence in patient care.


Work hours will be tracked to assure compliance with ACGME guidelines by using www.new-innov.com. At home hours of availability for call are not
counted as work hours. Call duties requiring in-house activity are counted.


In accordance with ACGME guidelines, fellows will be responsible for a patient-quality measure and will maintain an individualized learning plan (ILP).
