Academic Curriculum
Pediatric Coagulation Medicine

Conduct a weekly half-day continuity clinic alongside a designated hemostasis-thrombosis faculty preceptor
-
Twenty weeks of Coagulation Service divided into one month blocks
-
Allows the fellow to gain expertise in the management of inpatient coagulation pediatric patients
-
Fellow expectations include:
-
Pre-rounding on all consult patients
-
Participating and leading rounds by developing treatment plans for each patient
-
Seeing all new consult patients
-
Prompt, accurate documentation on patients
-
Communication and updating primary teams
-
Taking first call on new and existing patients
-

Sixteen weeks of Hemostasis-Thrombosis Clinic rotation divided into one month blocks
-
During this rotation, the fellow will attend each hemostasis-thrombosis specialty clinic:

Hemophilia Comprehensive Clinic
-
Young Women’s Clinic
-
Vascular Malformations Clinic
-
Stroke Clinic
-
Platelet function disorders clinic
-
General continuity clinics conducted by the hemostasis-thrombosis faculty
-

Four weeks of Hemostasis Clinical Laboratory experience
-
Fellow will receive specialized training in the principles, indications, test requirements, interpretation, limitations, quality control and alternative methods of coagulation assays
-

Eight weeks of Clinical or Translational Research
-
The focus of the fellowship is clinical but the fellow will be expected to participate in a clinical or translation research project

Quality Improvement Project
-
Design and complete a hemostasis/thrombosis focused QI project
-
Join and attend a hemostasis/thrombosis focused QI committee
-

Conferences

Participation in and leadership of division Hematology conferences

Presentation of a pertinent hemostasis or thrombosis focused journal article and division Journal Club

Attend national hemostasis and thrombosis conference
