Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Fellowship

Our division has an extremely active research program. Hem/Onc/BMT faculty participate and lead national multiinstitutional research studies including collaborations with the Children’s Oncology Group, the American Thrombosis and Hemostasis Network and national studies evaluating new medications for treating sickle cell disease. Extensive research opportunities are available for fellows through our onsite Children’s Mercy Research Institute, with expertise in clinical pharmacology, genomic medicine, experimental therapeutics and cellular therapy. Local collaborations include our role as the pediatric partner in the NCI-designated University of Kansas Cancer Center and research collaborations with Stowers Institute in Kansas City.

The hospital provides robust support for fellows’ research, including statistics training and support, REDCap for data collection, and editing services and writing workshops through the CMH Medical Writing Center. Fellows may apply for internal grant funding and a local auxiliary has set aside designated funding for each Pediatric Hematology/Oncology fellow that submits an approved project and budget.
