Child Neurology Residency - How to Apply
The Child Neurology training program at Children's Mercy accepts three residents per year. We are a categorical program; therefore, two years of pediatrics training and three years of child neurology training are both completed at Children's Mercy. Applicants only submit the Categorical Child Neurology ERAS application.
Application Requirements
Prospective applicants must have successfully completed two years in a pediatric residency, or one year in pediatrics and one year in internal medicine. Children's Mercy offers a five-year integrated program to applicants who are interested in completing both their preliminary pediatrics training and child neurology training at Children's Mercy. Entrance is at the PGY-3 level.
Review Process
Candidates will be reviewed by both program directors and a single interview will be offered to avoid unnecessary travel and expenses for the applicant. Both program directors and staff evaluate the applicants and jointly agree on a rank order list.
Application Details
- Applicants must pass USMLE Steps 1, 2 (CK and CS) prior to pediatrics training and Step 3 prior to child neurology training
- Valid ECFMG Certificate (International Medical Graduates only)
- For international citizens, Children's Mercy primarily accepts applicants with J-1 Visa status. To be eligible for appointment, all international citizens must be sponsored by the ECFMG for the J-1 nonimmigrant Visa classification and have and maintain valid ECFMG certification throughout the length of their training Program. In some cases, Children's Mercy will sponsor an H-1B Visa. Residents and fellows who wish to change their immigration classification while pursuing a graduate medical training Program at Children's Mercy must seek prior written approval from the GME Department. Failure to seek such approval will subject the trainee to immediate termination from his/her training Program. All H-1B candidates must have passed Step 3.
Children's Mercy Kansas City participates in the NRMP.
