Donate goods FAQ

Children’s Mercy is always in need of items that help patients and families feel more at ease during their time at the hospital. Before collecting donations, we recommend reviewing the hospital’s Safe Donation Guidelines.

View the Children's Mercy Safe Donation Guidelines and our current list of needed items.

We’re so glad you asked! Please schedule a drop off of your donations at the following address:

2420 E. Pershing Road
Kansas City, MO 64108

Because of privacy laws, you may not personally deliver items to Children's Mercy patients. Learn more about donating toys and other items to Children's Mercy.

Unfortunately, our other locations are not equipped to accept donations at this time. We ask that donors allow staff at these locations to focus on what they do best — treating kids — and only bring donations to Children’s Mercy Adele Hall Campus, where staff and volunteers can accept and provide a receipt for your items. Schedule a donation drop off now!

We always appreciate donations of the following popular items:

  • New unused coloring books

  • New unused crayons

  • New clothes

To ensure the health and safety of all patients and hospital visitors, all donations must be new merchandise. View the full list of restrictions and donation guidelines.

We do have some restrictions and guidelines when it comes to donated items for patients and families. Our number one priority is always the safety of our patients, so we ask that all donors review the hospital’s Safe Donation Guidelines before donating any toys, clothes or items. Some important things to keep in mind when collecting donations:

  • We cannot accept Nerf guns, spray guns, water guns, pop ball guns, bow and arrow or toy knives.

  • All items must be new and in original packaging (with tags) and odor-free.

  • Because Children’s Mercy is non-denominational and out of respect for the diverse beliefs of our patients and families, we ask that donors refrain from including religion-themed donations.

  • Help us keep patients safe by only donating items that are non-toxic, non-violent and do not contain latex.

No, donors may not distribute donations. To ensure the health, safety and privacy of all patients and families, all donations are distributed under the direction of the Volunteer and Guest Services and Child Life Departments.

Thanks for reaching out and wanting to do more to give back to Children’s Mercy. We are so grateful to those in the community who help provide the best pediatric care possible for our patients and families. Please take a moment to share more about your fundraising event by reviewing our Community Fundraiser Guidelines and then submitting an Organize a Fundraiser form. If you have questions about the process, please contact us. We look forward to working with you!

We’re glad you asked. Submitting a form helps us plan how to best support your event. Also, making us aware of your efforts and being formally approved adds credibility to your fundraiser when you’re seeking gifts or if we receive inquiries about your fundraising efforts. The Community Fundraiser Guidelines ensure all fundraisers reflect the mission of Children’s Mercy, and they provide organizers with important IRS information related to nonprofit fundraisers.

Yes. First, we need some information about your fundraiser. If you have not already, please tell us about your fundraising event by submitting an Organize a Fundraiser form.

Once we receive your form and approve your event, we can send you an electronic version of the benefitting Children’s Mercy logo. We ask to see any use of the hospital logo prior to distribution of your materials (fliers, websites, etc.).

Congrats on hosting a successful fundraiser and thanks for using the proceeds to support Children’s Mercy! Within 60 days of the completion of your fundraiser, please send the proceeds to the address below:

Children’s Mercy
Attn: Philanthropy Department
2401 Gillham Road
Kansas City, MO 64108
Memo Line: Name of your fundraiser

If you would like to have a formal check presentation at your location or at the hospital, we are happy to do so. Simply let your Children’s Mercy representative know or email events@cmh.edu, preferably two weeks in advance if possible and we’ll get something set up!

Volunteer shifts are a weekly three-hour commitment assigned and scheduled over a period of time.

Volunteer Services does not offer internships or shadowing opportunities.

For information on internship and shadowing/observership opportunities offered at Children’s Mercy and in the community, please visit our For High School Students page or our Observerships page.
