Joe Cummings, CFP®, AAMS®, AWMA® was 13 years old when he started investing. He went on to graduate with a master’s in finance, leading to his position as a Private Wealth Manager at Creative Planning.

Joe’s clientele come to him for a variety of reasons, but most are concerned about their tax burden. Joe helps them focus on how to give better and more efficiently, which many times results in them giving more.

Most recently, Joe worked with a client who didn’t typically donate to charity on an annual basis, but a recent liquidity event had them considering their charitable options. Joe worked closely with them to consider a variety of nonprofits, helping them think through the benefits of giving locally vs. nationally, and they decided Children’s Mercy was the perfect fit for them.

"When they come in, you find out what’s really important to them—their passions and what drives them. No one comes in and says, ‘help me give more to charity.’ I help them focus on how to give better and more efficiently, which oftentimes ends up in them giving more."

Joe’s personal experience with Children’s Mercy fuels his passion for serving on the Donald H. Chisholm Planned Giving Council and allows him to speak to the importance of donors for the hospital. His daughter was only 6 months old when she was diagnosed with a chronic kidney condition that led to a kidney transplant. She is now a happy and healthy 10-year-old.
